Schwaba high on SU
Low numbers at the tight end position could play in favor of the Syracuse Orange during this recruiting season. In the past couple of weeks they have had some top targets on campus and one of them is Pittsburgh (PA) Upper St. Clair prospect Jack Schwaba.
Schwaba, 6-foot-5, 235 pounds did not have a BCS offer until the Orange came in and that was something that changed his life.
"It was great because they were my first BCS offer and I have always wanted to play in a BCS bowl and they gave me that shot to do that," Schwaba said. "It really validated things for me that I am a great player and I can really be successful. It also means that I can go to a great school and get a great education while playing big time football."
When he first received his offer he immediately had solid thoughts about the Orange.
"I think it is a great school great academics, great football. Doug Marrone has things going in the right direction."
It was not until a couple weeks after the offer when Schwaba took a visit to Syracuse that solidified his thoughts on the Orange.
"I enjoyed the visit a lot. I had a chance to meet all of the coaches and some players on the team, it was great and I got to learn a lot," Schwaba stated. "The coaches, they are so friendly and it is a good staff. I would also have a chance to play early and they have great academics."
On the visit there were some other items that stuck out to the Keystone State product.
"I really enjoyed the tour of the campus the best. I was beautiful up there. I did not know that the Carrier Dome was right on campus and I was very impressed with that. I also had a chance to see the student body out having fun, I was really impressed."
I was informed that Syracuse is getting like all new football facilities and I did not know that. That was really surprising to me."
The tight end depth chart is another item that really caught the eye of Schwaba.
"The tight end depth is important because I would have the chance to play very early there, so it is a huge plus. That is definitely what I really like about Syracuse and the football program right now. When I talked with the coaches we just talked about how I would be able to play. They think I could be a big part of their offense. They told me that I am one of their top recruits."
With three offers in hand and visits to Syracuse and Rutgers taken does the prospect have any favorites at this time?
"It is tough to say right now because I do not have many offers, but they are definitely in my top two right now with Rutgers."
Since he does not have any favorites right now he is also not in any hurry to make a commitment.
"I will commit when it feels right. I am in no rush right now and I just want to see what other offers I get. I could definitely see myself playing at Syracuse if no more offers come I could really see myself playing there."
