Stover sets ASU official
La Canada (Calif.) Renaissance Academy center Anthony Stover is zeroing in on three Pac-10 schools, and he's set his first official visit.
"We're still setting up some visits, but I'm going to Arizona State on September 6th," Stover said. "They've been recruiting me a long time now. After I went there last year I've been very excited about going back."
Stover initially took an unofficial visit along with his father Craig to the Tempe campus nearly a full year ago.
"ASU was one of the very first programs to show a lot of interest and that means a great deal to us," Craig Stover said last month. "Went out there to a football game and it was totally first-class. I like Lisa Love and the whole direction of the athletic program there."
The 6-foot-9 Stover -- with a reported 7-foot-5 wingspan -- is a tremendous shot blocker who alters the game on the defensive side of the floor.
In addition to ASU, Stover has two other Pac-10 programs in his top three.
"I like both UCLA and Arizona," Stover said. "Arizona has always been one of my top schools and UCLA, they're the home school so of course I like them."
ASU and UCLA offered Stover within a day of one another in mid-July after his impressive showing in the first 10-day evaluation period that month.
"The summer went pretty good as I got a couple of big offers towards the end," Stover said. "I played more aggressively offensively and that might have caught the eye of some coaches. I got offers from Arizona State and UCLA, and Arizona had offered me before, but they started showing renewed interest in me."
Stover said his may also consider several other options in addition to his top three. He reportedly also holds offers from Connecticut, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington and Washington State.
"I'm planning to do all five (visits) but if like on the third visit I fall in love, I might be done," Stover said. "It's going to be the place where I feel the most at home."
