Dyshawn Mobley plans to sign with UK Wednesday
Powell High School (Tenn.) running back Dyshawn Mobley is set to sign with Kentucky at 7:01 a.m. on Wednesday morning, he told Cats Illustrated on Tuesday night.
Mobley, a three-star prospect, committed to Kentucky in November and took his official visit in January. He rushed for 3,068 yards and 46 touchdowns as a senior while helping Powell reach the Tennessee Class 5-A championship game.
He considered taking a visit to Vanderbilt in recent weeks, but decided to cancel it.
"I was definitely going to make an official visit down there, but I didn't think Kentucky would like that so I called it off," Mobley said.
He's still been getting plenty of calls, though. Mobley stopped talking to recruiters in recent days. He's often been getting one or more calls a day from phone numbers he doesn't recognize. Vanderbilt in particular has continued to recruit Mobley, but he's no longer speaking to them.
"If it's not Kentucky, I don't answer," he said. "I have gotten a lot of unknown calls."
At 6-foot, 210 pounds, Mobley said his goal is to play as a true freshman. His primary recruiter has been Kentucky running backs coach Steve Pardue, who will also be his position coach when he arrives on campus. Mobley and Pardue speak often.
"They definitely want me to come in and play," Mobley said. "They said I already have the build and the body to play in the SEC. The hard part is learning the plays and competing with the other running backs."
Mobley is already familiar with one of Kentucky's running backs, though not one he'll be competing against. He's friends with Darrell "D.J." Warren, a Tennessee native that Mobley knew in high school. Warren was the Wildcats' top fullback in 2011 as a true freshman.
He's also close to three-star cornerback commit Cody Quinn, from Middletown, Ohio. Mobley said he convinced Quinn to commit and is hoping to be roommates with him next year.
Mobley said he committed to Kentucky because of his relationship with Pardue, the academics at the university and the atmosphere surrounding the program.
"It's just a big family," Mobley said. "They welcomed me with open arms. Coach Steve Pardue was very honest with me."
Powell High School will have a signing day ceremony at 10 a.m. that Mobley will take part in, but he expects to already have his papers in by then.
"I'm looking forward to being a Wildcat," he said.
