Tide in Cole's early top five
The state of Tennessee has been good to Alabama in the past, with players like Dont'a Hightower and Barrett Jones hailing from the Volunteer State. The Crimson Tide are pursuing another Tennessee native in Memphis (TN) Mitchell wide receiver Nathan Cole. Cole has already racked up a number of impressive offers.
"I have offers from Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Memphis, and Tennessee," said Cole. "I have Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama, Cincinnati, and Georgia as my top schools right now. Auburn and Kentucky would be recruiting me the hardest with Alabama right there as well. I like the coaching staffs at all of those schools. They all seem cool right now. I'm looking at how they coach their players and how well I can relate to them."
Cole plans to take a number of visits during the offseason.
"I'm going down to Mississippi State's junior day," he said. "I'm also planning to get to Bama and Ole Miss. I was invited to Alabama's junior day but we had already made reservations for Mississippi State."
It wouldn't be the first time Cole has been on campus in Tuscaloosa.
"I've been to Alabama the last two summers and I've built a relationship with Coach (Nick) Saban," Cole said. "We mostly talk about what I need to work on, the recruiting process, and what I bring to the table as a wide receiver."
Building a solid relationship with potential coaching staffs is of the utmost importance to Cole as he moves forward with the recruiting process.
"The coaching staff would be the number one factor," said Cole. "Also, wherever my mom and dad are comfortable with the academics. Playing time will be another thing I look at when making a decision. I'm probably going to stretch it out and take all of my official visits and focus on making the right choice.
"With me, it probably wouldn't matter how far away a school is, but with my mom she'll probably have a say and she'd want me to stay relatively close so she could visit when she wants. But it wouldn't matter as long as I feel at home and like the coaching staff."
Cole had a very productive junior season at Mitchell, playing for his father, Nathan Cole, Sr.
"We lost in the first round of the playoffs," he said. "I ended up with 64 catches and about 940 yards and around 15 total touchdowns. I had one interception for a touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. I bring physicality to the table- I can catch the ball and I love to block. I'm also a good leader on the field."
