BC on Illinois receiver early
Even though Illinois is over 1,000 miles away from Boston College and is in Big Ten country, the Eagles coaching staff have done a great job recruiting players out of the state over the years. Last year they had nine players on the roster from Illinois, and the 2011 class features three more futures Eagles from Illinois.
The coaching staff is once again after a top Illinois native, wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp. Why the interest in Boston College?
"I know they have a great football program and the city of Boston is unbelievable," said Westerkamp. "I am just looking for a great place, where I fit in. I haven't visited yet, but I have to get out there this spring and see how I fit in."
Westerkamp's would have some familiar faces near Boston College, his aunt and uncle live in the Boston area.
What specific things does the 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver look for in a school that will help him fit in?
"I have three big things that I look for: 1) academics 2) the football program 3) great coaches and people," said Westerkamp. "I think if a school has those three things then I will fit in great."
The Lombard (Ill.) Montini standout had an unbelievable junior season, hauling in 89 receptions for 1600+ yards and 23 touchdowns, so it is not surprising that the rising senior has gotten a lot of attention from schools.
"The recruiting process has been awesome; I am up to 11 offers now, mostly from Big Ten schools. All the schools have been recruiting me pretty hard, it's crazy but I love it," said Westercamp. "It's been a great experience, and I am really fortunate to be in this position. I am looking forward to visiting a bunch of schools."
How will he narrow down his list?
"I have no favorites yet, I will narrow down my schools after I finish all of my visits this spring."
