Iowa offers Texas WR

Over the years the Hawkeyes have worked their Texas connections with a good amount of success. Late last week they extended another offer in the Lone Star state, this time to Conner Crane. The 6-foot-4 and 190 pound wide receiver has been gaining plenty of attention this spring and left a great impression on Iowa receivers coach Erik Campbell.

"Coach Campbell, their receivers coach, came out during spring ball and I guess he liked what he saw. He called me a couple of days ago and said they wanted to offer me a scholarship," Crane said.

While Campbell talked to Crane, he gave a bit of a sales pitch, but he gave him plenty of reasons to take a serious look at the Hawkeyes.

"It was a great conversation," Crane said. "He said when he came out to see me, he loved what he saw. He told me Iowa was a great place and a great football program. He told me about how he coached at Michigan and helped to put a lot of guys in the NFL. He said he has the experience and would love to get a great player like me."

Crane was impressed with what he heard and while he has yet to put together a list of his top schools, the Iowa offer got his attention.

"It is pretty big," he said. "They are usually a Top Ten type program and its Big Ten Football. I know they usually produce a lot of NFL players, so I'm very excited about it."

The Hawkeyes join 16 other schools who have offered the Denton, Texas prep, who 35 receptions for 854 yards and 11 touchdowns in his junior season. Included on that list of school are: Iowa State, Oregon, Arizona, Boise State, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Northwestern, Purdue, and Utah.

The next step for Crane will be to make unofficial visits during the spring and summer and try to narrow down his growing list of schools. Thus far, with the exception of Rice, the Texas schools have not offered and he is comfortable looking outside of his home state for a college to attend.

"I am going to try and visit there in June. I need to sit down with my parents and talk about all the places I want to visit. I definitely think Iowa will be on that list. I also have an offer from Iowa State, so I could visit there too."

His final decision may come sooner rather than later. Crane would like to make his college choice before the start of his senior season. He says he will make as many visits as possible in the next couple of months, but if he doesn't get to all the places he would like, then he could make official visits this fall.
