Fabian Moreau Q-&-A

Deacons Illustrated spoke with Fabian Walker after his official visit to Wake Forest this weekend.

Rivals.com rates the Western High School running back from Davie, Fla. as a three-star recruit.

Western finished 5-4 and did not make it to the state playoffs, but Walker managed to produce big-time numbers. The 6-foot-1 and 185-pounder gained 1,900 all-purpose yards and scored 20 touchdowns to earn All-County honors.

How did your visit to Wake Forest go this weekend? "It was pretty good. I liked the stadium. I liked the coaches. I like the bond with the players. It was a pretty good visit."

Which player hosted you? Orville Reynolds, he's one of their running backs. He played for the same Optimist team as me, just a higher level, so I pretty much knew of him before this visit."

What happened on your visit? What did you do? Just take me through the process. "When we first got there we ate dinner with my position coach, Coach [Billy] Mitchell, the running backs coach, and then went to the dorm with Orville and just hung out. On Saturday we took a tour of the campus, the stadium, and then watched their practice. On Sunday we had breakfast with Coach [Jim] Grobe, then drove home."

Tell me about your time with Coach Jim Grobe. How did that go? "It was pretty good. He's a really good coach. He's a nice guy."

So where does this put you at in your recruitment right now? "I'm still going to try to take all five [official] visits. This is my first. It's definitely a school I'm considering."

Where do you want to take your other four visits? "I'm going to take a visit to Vandy and UCLA, and I'm trying to take one to Oregon. I haven't decided on the other one yet."

So who are your favorites right now, and do you have them listed in any particular order? "Those four, Wake Forest, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Oregon, but I'm still open to every school, [and] no there's no order."

Fabian, how do you think you would fit into Wake Forest if you choose the Demon Deacons? "I think I would fit in pretty good. They have a lot of kids from Florida, so I wouldn't be the odd man out, so I think I'd fit in pretty good."

When you were walking around the campus or the facilities what stood out to you? "The stadium, they have a really nice stadium. The press box where we ate dinner was really nice. The campus was also pretty nice. It's a little bit smaller population wise, but it's a pretty campus."

When exactly do you want to have your recruitment wrapped up? "Hopefully the last week of January. Hopefully I can make my commitment hopefully before Signing Day."

Who's recruiting you for Wake Forest? "Coach Mitchell and Coach [Ray] McCartney."

What's your relationship like with them? "I'm able to talk to them easily. They understand me. They really know how to recruit Florida. They understand the area. I have a good relationship with both of them."

Now do you have a checklist with schools? What you want in a school? "Number one is good academics, number two is the coaches and how they bond with their players, number three is the campus lifestyle, and my last number four is the surroundings, like around or off the campus."

What did you observe with how the players and the coaches related to one another at Wake Forest? Is that what you want? Is that what you desire? "Yes sir, they had a really strong bond."

Do you want to play just running back in college, or are you open to other positions? "I'm open to other positions mainly on offense though, like running back or slot receiver."

Your versatility is one of your strengths. What are some things that you do that separate you from other players that makes you special? "As a running back I would be able to catch the ball easily out of the backfield. I can spread out wide sometimes to create mismatches against linebackers. I'm able to use my speed to get around them."
