The first five-stars: Andrus Peat

MORE 2012 Rivals250 to Watch list

They are the best of the best. The players that are wanted by every program and destined to make a big impact at the college level and beyond.

Five stars: Andrus Peat
Andrus Peat's talent is only part of what makes him a great player.
Rivals.com has identified the first five-star prospects for the 2012 class and is unveiling them this week. Twelve prospects have been awarded five-stars but are not ranked at this time and we will profile three each day. The five-star spotlight is now on Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol offensive tackle Andrus Peat.

Andrus Peat, OT, Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol

Attributes: 6-7, 280

Top schools: Offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, California, Clemson, Colorado, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Kansas, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, Stanford, Texas, UCLA, USC, Wake Forest and Washington.

Analyst's take: "What I like most about Peat is that he plays with a lot of intensity and always wants to drive his opponent into the ground and he does it with such perfect technique. He's not just a player who has more strength than the defensive lineman and dominates him. Peat uses great balance and great drive on his blocks to clear the opponent out of the way with authority. It looks like Peat has a real passion for the position, too. He's one of the best in the country at offensive tackle but he doesn't whiff or take plays off. Peat wants to make a statement that he owns the line and no one is getting to his quarterback." - Adam Gorney, Rivals.com

First Five-stars
Here's a look at the five-star prospects announced so far:
RB Johnathan Gray Story
WR Stefon Diggs Story
OT John Theus Story
S Landon Collins Story
DT Eddie Goldman Story
DE Noah Spence Story
WR Dorial Green-Beckham Story
S Shaq Thompson Story
OT D.J. Humphries Story
DE Mario Edwards Story
Why he's a five-star: "Andrus Peat, has the ideal height, length, and frame to be the coveted left offensive tackle that protects the backside of the quarterback. Peat looks like he is sitting in a chair with his arms locked on the defensive lineman. That is the perfect pass set." - Barry Every, Rivals.com

His coach says: "Andrus is pretty talented. He's probably more athletic than (his brother) Todd. He was a tackle (on the offensive line), but he played a little defensive end, too." - Kim Sickmiller, the defensive coordinator at Corona Del Sol last season as told to the Omaha World-Herald.

Odds and ends: Corona Del Sol finished 1-10 this past season but that is no reflection on Peat, who dominated at left tackle all season and has picked up as many offers as anyone on the West Coast. His brother, Todd, signed with Nebraska this past recruiting cycle and the Huskers are recruiting Andrus but he's made it clear that he will keep all options open. At this point last year, Peat already had five verbal offers from Arizona, Nebraska, Stanford, Clemson and Northern Illinois.
