McKenzie expects more offers

Yes, the numbers were quite impressive last year for Jaborian McKenzie. In his junior season at Trinity Episcopal (Natchez, Miss.), the 5-foot-8 and 170-pound McKenzie rushed for 812 yards and eight touchdowns, collected 797 receiving yards and 14 more scores, and for good measure, the speedster known as 'Tip' had eight interceptions on the defensive side.

Yet with each new BCS offer, McKenzie said it is a "surprise".

Heading into late spring, McKenzie has picked up offers from Vanderbilt, Kansas State, Indiana, Southern Miss and Memphis. And he believes a couple of more BCS programs could be next in line to offer him.

"I got pretty excited to get those BCS offers," said McKenzie. "I really didn't expect it and it did catch me by surprise. I also think Mississippi State and Ole Miss are close to offering. Both of those schools want to see me at camp and watch me perform at camp."

Speaking of camps, McKenzie also has other SEC venues in his future plans.

"I have already visited SMU and Mississippi State this spring and some others," said McKenzie. "This summer I am going to hit up camps at Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, LSU and Auburn and just go from there."

Along with the schools that offered him, McKenzie added that MSU, Ole Miss, Louisiana Tech and SMU visited him this spring. But during spring drills, McKenzie said his focus was on the field and not on who was watching from the sidelines.

"We have some holes to fill at some positions going into next year," said McKenzie. "So this spring was all about finding replacements and having guys step up. Personally, I worked a lot on my speed and my cuts and that was the main thing."

Back to his recruitment, McKenzie claims no current leader among the schools recruiting him. But he does have his sights set on his position at the college level.

"I don't have any favorites right now," said McKenzie. "Right now I am just trying to find out where I fit in the best and this summer will help me. I would like to play slot receiver in college and everybody is recruiting me as a slot receiver. So that's a good thing for me."
