Jelks making the rounds
Andrew Jelks reeled in his share of SEC offers during the early spring period. Of late, the 2012 offensive tackle prospect has made his rounds to visit some of those schools.Henry County (Paris, Tenn.) High School's
"I've been to see Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Alabama," said Jelks. "All of them were good visits and I may re-visit all of those schools. I got nothing but positives on those visits and I got to spend a lot of 1-on-1 time with the coaches and I got to know some of the players at those schools.
"I may do some other trips in July but nothing is exactly set yet. I may go see Stanford and make return trips to Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama."
Jelks currently owns offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Stanford among many other offers. And taking these visits, he said, gives him the opportunity to judge these programs in his own eyes and not rely on hearsay.
"It's good to see these schools for myself," said Jelks. "Like at Mississippi State, I really didn't know what to expect. Then I got down there and I loved the facilities and everything was aweson. I loved getting the opportunity to talk to coach John Hevesy and coach Dan Mullen and it was just a great experience.
"And again, all of these visits have been great but no one school is really sticking out above the rest. I really like Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Alabama."
Yet while the camp visits have been enjoyable, Jelks admits it does make his eventual college decision a bit tougher.
"It does make it a little harder," said Jelks. "But at the same time it's good to see these coaches and good to talk to them and see what they are thinking. I really don't have a time frame for my decision. One factor, for sure, is academics and then I will look to see and make sure I am comfortable in these environments. I also want to make sure I have a good relationship with the coaching staff and the players."
