Kuhar is a Cat

Three-star defensive tackle Greg Kuhar has committed to Northwestern.

The Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward prospect confirmed his verbal commitment via a text message to WildcatReport tonight.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pounder chose Northwestern over offers from Michigan, Iowa, Boston College, Vanderbilt and West Virginia, among others. He is the 42nd-ranked defensive tackle in the nation and the 41st-ranked prospect in the state of Ohio.

Kuhar has strong ties to the Wildcat program. His brother, Ben, is a fifth-year senior wrestler for Northwestern and has been the Wildcats' starting heavyweight for the last three seasons. Plus, two of Kuhar's former football teammates at St. Edward -- Geoff Mogus and Deonte Gibson -- are true freshmen.

Kuhar is quite a wrestler himself. He finished 29-2 as a heavyweight last season, losing 3-2 in the state final.

Kuhar is being recruited as a defensive tackle, but offensive line coach Adam Cushing told him that interior offensive line is also a possibility.

The addition of Kuhar brings the Wildcats' Class of 2012 to 14. He is the second defensive tackle in the class, joining Connor Mahoney.
