Commits still shining on field

High school football season is wrapping up across the country so many of Boston College's commits are finished but many are still playing and advancing through the playoffs.

Offensive tackle Jim Cashman and his Haddonfield (N.J.) Memorial squad continue to dominate with a 35-0 victory over Haddon Heights this past weekend. So far this season, Cashman's squad has outscored their opponents, 409-47.

The two players who have been putting up tremendous offensive numbers all season continue to play well as athlete Dan Crimmins caught two touchdown passes for Demarest, N.J., in a 59-14 win over Northern Valley.

In a big matchup in New York, running back Akeel Lynch ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries - mostly in the first half because he was slowed with turf toe - as Athol Springs (N.Y.) St. Francis downed St. Joseph's 37-16. Lynch set the Monsignor Martin single-season rushing record with 2,131 yards.

It was another big victory for offensive tackle Win Homer and Christchurch, Va., with a 48-15 decision over Potomac School. This season Christchurch has outscored its opponents, 419-65.

Linebacker Tim Joy continues to impress this season as Chelmsford, Mass., defeated Billerica Memorial, 21-7. Joy's coach raved about his star player to the Boston Globe.

"It all starts with defense for us," Bruce Rich told the Globe "Our defense, led by Timmy Joy, has just taken it to another level this season. Joy's been such a force that other teams are changing their blocking schemes to take him out of the game."

Offensive tackle Frank Taylor and linebacker Mike Strizak continue to roll. Taylor and his Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood squad bested Dobbins-Randolph Vo-Tech, 49-0, and Strizak's Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep team beat St. Joseph Regional, 41-0.

Defensive back Justin Simmons saw his senior season come to an end as Stuart (Fla.) Martin County went down to Fort Pierce Central, 31-7. Cornerback Donovan Henry and West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial fell to Boston College High, 13-0.

Linebackers Steven Daniels and Bobby Wolford, tight end Sam Grant, wide receiver Harrison Jackson and defensive end Malachi Moore have already all finished.
